SAFETY MANAGER-NORTHERN VIRGINIA
General Summary of the Position:
Working under the guidance of our Director of Risk, Safety, & Health, the Safety Manager is expected to conduct on-site field safety inspections, project safety audits, safety talks, and train project employees in various safety and OSHA related topics, across the infrastructure services division.
The Safety Manager will assist in identifying and developing safety policies and procedures that help prevent harm to workers and property and create policies for workers to follow that minimize job-related hazards. Candidate must:
1. Assists in reducing and eliminating accident hazards and frequencies to keep workers and the public safe from harm.
2. Lead and coordinate required safety training.
3. Perform safety inspections and audits in the field.
4. Assist with client safety meetings and reporting.
5. Develop safety reports, monitor trends, and special program to identify and eliminate risk factors.
6. Research latest industry standards for workplace safety and methods to predict and prevent hazards.
7. Implement company initiatives to lower insurance premiums and workers' compensation payments.
8. Become familiar with current State and Federal occupational health and safety laws.
9. Inform Safety Director of areas not in compliance with State and Federal laws or employer policies.
10. Evaluate and uncover patterns in injury data.
11. Assists in the administration of division safety rules and instructions.
12. Present project status to Regional Manager and Safety Director.
Minor Functions of the Job
1. Be a dependable and productive team player with minimal direct oversight.
2. Show initiative; seek out work and get the job done without being told.
3. Provide assistance to projects, regional management and support staff as necessary.
4. Communicate clearly with supervisors and other team members.
5. Ensure maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all potentially hazardous chemicals and materials used.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors
1. Moderate lifting; up to 50 pounds.
2. Dexterity to write and manipulate computer, keyboard, mouse, and smart phone.
3. Ability to hear and speak clearly.
4. Body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
5. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
