Position Summary  

Roy Jorgensen Associates, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Mid-Level or Senior SYSTEMS ENGINEER to manage systems/cover/tunnel asset management operations on comprehensive roadway maintenance and operations project(s) in Colorado. This position will report to the Regional Manager or Project Manager and requires performing a wide range of responsibilities on a new asset maintenance roadway services AM/O&M contract related to systems/mechanical/civil engineering, cover/tunnel maintenance, systems inspections, and  operations, planning work, scheduling/managing crews, roadway repair analysis, preparing project report submissions, interfacing with government Clients and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Jorgensen Company policies and procedures. It is required to have a technical background in engineering (systems, mechanical, civil, industrial, electrical, intelligent transportation systems) from an ABET-accredited university. The ideal candidate must have proven experience as a leader working in an ever-changing environment, meticulous organizational skills, adaptive and analytical problem-solving capabilities, and abilities to effectively create functional teams. The position requires the candidate to work in a unique environment both in the office, out on the project-site (among field crews) and within professional organized meetings. Successful candidates for this position have a drive to develop their careers, create strong teams, and can remain focused in rapidly changing environments.  
 

Salary Range

Mid-Level Systems Engineer $85,000 - $105,000

Senior Systems Engineer $115,000 - $135,000

Denver, Colorado (Central I-70 Project)

 

Work Environment 

Project Field (40%):  Outside environment around highway/facility infrastructure. 

Project Office (50%):  Project office compatible with industry standard for construction field offices.

Client Office (5%):  Government-style professional offices within near proximity to Project Office 

Divisional Project Sites (5%):  Multiple sites through region and U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance engineering operations on roadway/cover/tunnel assets, repair, and emergency operations.
  • Manage all cover / tunnel and pump station installed systems and infrastructure.
  • Configure and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Coordinate office and field tunnel / cover tasks and operations.
  • Supervising field project inspections with annual QAQC assessments.
  • Coordinate financial planning and project budget projections that will assist senior managers.
  • Track/report maintenance contract performance relative to plan, contract, and company targets.
  • Work with Senior/Regional/Project Managers to develop short-term and long-term project maintenance repair plans and technical support.
  • Monitor / test application performance, identify possible solutions, and work with developers / contractors to implement those fixes.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages for presentation to Client and Corporate operations centers.
  • Reviewing and approving plans, payments, and change orders for contracts.
  • Offering technical support to others involved in the project's operations and maintenance.
  • Assisting in the planning, design, and production of engineering drawings and calculations.
  • Conducting data acquisition and analysis, researching alternative design approaches, and preparing reports and permit applications.
  • Creating business cases to evaluate the best options for highway operations.
  • Updating the asset management and work order system as required.
  • Providing necessary training to the Maintenance Team to enhance their responsibilities.
  • Ensuring compliance with the O&M Measurement and Performance Tables.
  • Develop traffic control strategies to accomplish cover/tunnel inspections.
  • Senior level may supervisor other engineers.


Required Experience

  • Highly efficient organizational skills in a multi-faceted long-term project environment.
  • Minimum 12-15 years' experience with engineering, project management, and operations for Mid-Level, and 15-20 years' experience for Senior level.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering, ABET accredited university
  • Ability to rapidly develop a competent understanding of technical roadway maintenance specifications.
  • Ability to lead, direct, and manage field maintenance crews and office staff.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor.
  • Effective communicator at all professional levels and styles (verbal, f2f, messaging, phone, email, etc.).
  • Ability to manage project field emergencies 24/7.
  • Ability to analyze field accomplishment data and prepare reports, statements and projections.
  • Working knowledge of short- and long-term contract budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and revenue analysis.
  • Experience working with various types of systems i.e. electrical, piping, drainage, communication, networking, SCADA, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), fire and life safety.
 

Preferred Experience

  • Colorado Professional Engineer (PE) license with reciprocity
  • Computer experience with BlueBeam, ArcGIS, PowerBI, Tableau, CAD, and/or MicroStation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with DOT contract operations.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Construction/Maintenance field operations professional experience.
  • Military/Veteran leadership experience.
  • Competent understanding of roadway maintenance and repair specifications.
  • Technical experience with earthworks, landscaping, road construction, bridge maintenance, stormwater drainage maintenance, traffic control / maintenance of traffic.
 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, and College Engineering ABET-accredited Degree
  • Must have valid Driver’s License.
  • Competency of Microsoft Office 365 suite software
  • Solid organizational planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Skill in establishing priorities and managing highly fluid work loads.
  • Ability to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in the order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Performadvanced math skills including calculations using fractions, percent, and/ratios.
  • Read and understand technical manuals, plans, specifications.
  • Ability to write documents (English) following prescribed formats.
  • Understand multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Self-starter who can work independently.
  • Dependable and highly organized with business and maturity, discretion, enthusiasm, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to travel within State and occasionally outside State (up to 10%).

Employment Type and Compensation

Jorgensen operates a 24 hour / 7 day a week operation.  Work schedules vary by workload, client requests, location, and emergency conditions.  A typical week is standard full-time with weekend and/or nighttime work possible at times. Must be flexible and available to respond to emergency related infrastructure, weather events, and client emergencies.
