Roy Jorgensen Associates, Inc. is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) professional to support regional project offices as the Safety Manager. This position will be responsible for supporting, assisting, monitoring, guiding, training, and ensuring EHS compliance and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. While the primary focus is on safety inspections; training the team and managers in the classroom and highway setting will be a part of the weekly duties. This position reports to Jorgensen's Director of Risk, Safety, & Health.

This position will be based in Denver, CO and requires an EHS professional capable of managing multiple facilities to ensure 100% compliance in all company, regulatory and environmental requirements, including but not limited to temporary traffic control/maintenance of traffic, hazard communication, emergency response, safety audits and inspections, and employee training programs. This individual will be expected to work with cross functional site management to ensure EHS performance metrics and reporting mechanisms, to accurately gauge overall site safety performance and to pro-actively work with site leadership to enhance employee involvement initiatives.

Up to 50% travel; will include training coordination, and hosting training sessions.


Salary:  $65,000 - $85,000; salary dependent upon education and experience

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Champion regulatory compliance programs. Ensure 100% compliance with OSHA and DOT requirements as well as federal and/or state regulations.
  • Support EHS training programs by scheduling and hosting activities, ensuring projects maintain the appropriate level of safety training for employees.
  • Perform Temporary Traffic Control inspections to ensure compliance with State and MUTCD policies and procedures.
  • Improve overall safety culture; engage employees and management, promoting positive accomplishments with effective performance metrics.
  • Encourage a proactive reporting culture, and that appropriate attention is given to the determination of root cause and ensuring that corrective actions have been completed.
  • Perform site safety inspections. Review closure of identified unsafe conditions to ensure response was appropriate and timely.
  • Provide technical safety support and assistance to Project Managers and regional safety managers as needed.
  • Coordinate of all accident investigations and follow up measures.
  • Coordinate and or perform specialized training as required.
  • Complete safety narratives for proposals as needed.


Desired Skills

  • Roadway construction or highway maintenance experience preferred
  • Maintenance of Traffic / Temporary Traffic Control Experience and Certification a must
  • Excellent written and verbal skills when addressing either individuals or groups
  • Ability to present information in classroom or conference call settings
  • Customer-service oriented
  • Knowledge of OSHA construction and general industry regulations, active certifications
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability and willingness to travel; overnight travel required on occasion.


Required experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or construction related degree or minimum of five (5) years related experience and have demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the responsibilities
  • Strong, critical thinking skills & capable of anticipating organizational needs
  • Ability to work effectively handling multiple projects

  • Maintain company standards for background checks (i.e. criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing)
  • Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
  • Carry out simple arithmetic functions
  • Maintain proper safety equipment required for each job
  • Knowledge and ability to adapt to the latest technology
  • Ability to use smart phone and applications
  • Ability to adjust to changing work schedule
  • Ability to work safely under ranging environmental and weather conditions
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate hand/power tools


Schedule
Full time. Monday – Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm. Must be able to work outside of set schedule, when needed.
